Filip Felczak, the visionary behind Robo Shop, set out with an ambitious goal: to create a fully autonomous, COVID-safe, always-available beverage experience that doesn’t just replicate human service—but enhances it. But with great innovation comes great complexity, and understanding customer behavior in such an uncharted retail space was crucial. That’s where DISPL’s advanced audience analytics became the silent yet powerful force driving Robo Shop' success.

Serge Gale, CEO of DISPL, spoke with Filip Felczak, Head of Robo Shop, to discuss how they’re shaping the future of autonomous retail and how advanced audience analytics helps them.

Filip Felczak, Head of Robo Shop

S.G: What inspired you to create Robo Shop?

Filip Felczak: The idea came from a simple need—how can we provide high-quality beverages anywhere, anytime, without requiring a human presence? We wanted to ensure that customers always get their drinks exactly as intended, whether it’s a rich espresso, a crisp beer, or a perfectly balanced cocktail. It had to be available 24/7 and completely self-sufficient. Robo Shop was born from this vision of making premium drinks more accessible and consistent.

S.G: What challenges did you face in bringing this idea to life?

Filip Felczak: The biggest challenge was understanding customer behavior. Unlike traditional cafes or bars, where staff can interact with customers and adjust based on feedback, we had no direct communication with users. We needed to know: Who stops by? Who actually makes a purchase? Are we offering the right products? Are the kiosks placed in the best locations? Without this information, we would be operating blindly.

S.G.: How did DISPL help address these challenges?

Filip Felczak: DISPL changed everything. The analytics platform allowed us to monitor people who passes by, who approaches, who interacts and who buys the drinks. We now know customer demographics, and understand how people engage with our kiosks. We could see who was approaching but not buying, what drinks were most popular among different age groups, and even determine the best times for sales. This data helped us fine-tune everything—our product selection, kiosk placement, and marketing strategies.

S.G.: Can you give an example of how the data led to a major business decision?

Filip Felczak: Absolutely. One surprising insight was that, although we initially offered four different types of milk for coffee, data showed that nearly everyone was choosing just one type. That meant we were wasting resources by stocking unnecessary options. By streamlining our inventory, we reduced costs significantly. Just changing on a scale of 1% over 1000 stores makes a difference of millions of dollars of savings and earnings.

S.G.: How does DISPL help with kiosk placement?

Filip Felczak: Location is everything in retail. We might think a high-traffic area is ideal, but if sales don’t follow, something’s wrong. DISPL helps us determine whether a location is actually viable. If a kiosk sees lots of foot traffic but few purchases, we analyze whether it’s due to poor visibility, lack of customer education, or simply the wrong audience. Based on this, we can reposition kiosks or improve messaging to attract more buyers.

S.G.: What do your clients and partners think about this approach?

Filip Felczak: They’re impressed. Many of our retail partners see the value in having detailed analytics about their own foot traffic and customer behaviors. It’s not just about selling drinks—it’s about understanding how people move, what interests them, and how they make purchasing decisions. This data-driven approach makes Robo shop a valuable asset for anyone hosting our kiosks.

S.G.: What’s next for Robo Shop?

Filip Felczak: We’re expanding—more locations, more product options, and more innovation. Data will continue to guide every decision we make, from adjusting drink offerings to optimizing kiosk placements. The goal is to create an even more seamless, intelligent retail experience that meets people’s needs effortlessly. And with DISPL, we’re confident that every step forward is backed by real, actionable insights.

Conclusion

Robo Shop is more than just an automated drink dispenser; it’s a glimpse into the future of retail. With AI-driven insights from DISPL, every aspect of the business—from product selection to location strategy—is refined with data. As the project grows, one thing remains clear: the perfect drink, at the perfect time, in the perfect place is no longer just an idea—it’s a reality.
